If I knew more about the personalities of Adam Lambert's band members (just enough to figure out their voices) I would write a Stonewall Riots AU.

Adam would be the drag queen performer in the night club. He's an old hand at these raids, knows just how much to give up to stay out of jail, but not an inch more. Lisa's a fellow patron, a bull dyke who's involved in the local feminist chapter; she and Adam are best buddies and always dance close together so that when a raid starts they can quickly switch partners. Tommy's a hustler, a runaway living in the park nearby who isn't so much a fag as he is starving and living hand-to-mouth (or dick-to-mouth). Monte's a bartender in the Inn, a morally-compromised confidence man for the Mob owners. Longineu's a local civil rights activist who doesn't so much care about the fags until the riots start and he sees the police violence, and draws commonality to his own struggles.

Or maybe I could start a community and other people could join in? This would be an epic project -- would anyone else be interested in participating?

*I have an invite to Archive of Our Own, if anybody needs one. Most of my non-Atlantis stories are loaded over there, and I plan to get the SGA ones up soon. I'm not sure what to do about drabbles and ficlets, though. I have a bunch, and the thought of creating header information for all of them individually is daunting. Any suggestions on how to handle this dilemma?

*Winnie has a new habit that I’m trying to curtail: chomping on my laptop power cord and killing my computer as a result. I've ordered a couple of replacement cords, but the quick death makes me aware that I really do need a new laptop. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? My computer needs are mostly web, music, photo editing, a bit of video tinkering, and word processing (no gaming). Are integral DVD burners standard these days?

Star Trek Reboot

On A Day Like This by oxymoronic (Kirk/McCoy) I liked the character voices and the plot. I had a hard time putting this story down!


Refractions by bigmamag (Kirk/Spock) This was fun to read. I loved seeing glimpses into other realities. Some where a bit heartbreaking.


For the Greater Good by meri_oddities (Kirk/McCoy Kirk/Spock Kirk/Uhura) I really liked the concept and the world building.


Love is Strange by garryowen (Kirk/Spock) INSTANT REC!!! I loved that the author took this concept and made it believable! I loved all the touching, the character voices, and the sex was hot.


Making a Living Out of Hope by casspeach (McCoy/Chekov) I really liked the plot, the character voices, and the way the story wraps up. Very well told.


Cowboys Lost At Sea by ayalesca (Kirk/McCoy) This was interesting, I liked the concept, character voices, and it was romantic.


Stargate Atlantis

Calling Down the Lightning by dreamwaffles (Sheppard/McKay) INSTANT REC!!! I had a lot of fun reading this story. I loved the concept, character voices, and the ending worked for me.


The Magical Number Seven (Plus or Minus Two) by general_jinjur (Gen) INSTANT REC!!! I could not stop reading once I started. I loved the plot, the character voices, and this was bittersweet in a way but the ending worked for me. wonderful storytelling!


Dark Shadows

Faith in the Atmosphere by lovesrain44 (Willie/Barnabas) This is the final story in the Splinter Verse and this entire series was rather captivating. I loved the character voices and I felt for Willie.


Supernatural

An Offering For Sin by varkelton (sam/dean) INSTANT REC!!! This was incredibly hot and hit just about all of my kinks. I loved plot, the character voices, and it goes without saying I loved the sex in the story.

I had planned to do Zepp this week, but in looking at the notation I realized I need a double bass pedal. That'll have to wait until after Christmas.

So, Mr. Brightside by The Killers it is. Drummer is Ronnie Vannucci Jr. Tempo's about 148, which will make it the fastest song I've played thus far.

It's also probably the most complex, especially when it comes to the hi-hat. The verses have rapid-fire 16th notes on a tight hi-hat for this very harsh ticking noise; the chorus opens up the hi-hat and switches to fourth notes. Then there's a late bridge at 2:56 with eighth notes on the hi-hat. The bass drum is on its familiar place of one and three, except for when IT'S playing the eighth notes at the end of the second chorus or in the outro. The breaks jump onto the toms, too, which I'm happy about -- I need to move around the kit a bit more.

It's a very chorus-happy song: there are only two of them, but they're 4 times as big as the verses or bridges. There's also a sizable intro and outro.

Intro: 20 measures
Verse 1: 8 measures
Choruses 1 & 2: 32 measures each
Bridge 1: 8 measures
Verse 2: 16 measures
Bridge 2: 8 measures
Outro: 16 measures

Total: 140 measures

This is going to be a tough one. There isn't a stable "groove," per se - while the verse and chorus have a basic bass drum of 1 & 3 and snare at 2 & 4, almost every measure is slightly different. An extra bass here, a crash there. Everything's always changing. It'll be difficult to keep up, especially at that tempo.

When I was three or four, my parents rented The Terminator and it scared the shit out me, right? Like it would. And right outside my bedroom door, perfectly visible from my bed, were the controls for the house's air exchange system, which naturally had two little red glowing lights. It freakin' TERRIFIED me. FOR YEARS. Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to kill me in my SLEEP.

Now, on a week-long marathon through the Terminator movies and the Sarah Connor Chronicles, skinless Terminators are not scary. No, no. They are sexy. I kinda want to make out with one. And by 'kinda' I mean 'really, really'.

I'm not sure what to do with that, except troll the internet for Marcus Wright/John Connor porn. Ahar.

I hope that Adam a) is smart enough to understand that by just being "a performer" - by being HIM - he's going to walk a very certain path, b) is brave enough to walk it despite the asshats, and c) has people around him who will help. Because goddamn, this is just the start of his career.

We went down to Salinas to J's sister's new place, and holy crap is it huge. It's got a nifty layout, and infinitely more space than their old house. We hadn't seen Natalie since before she was walking so it took a while for her to stop giving J and I the suspicious eye, but by the end of the night it was lots of carry-me arms, and where Sophie is usually all about her Uncle J, somehow this time I ended up with her hanging on me more often than not. I suspect it was that I was wearing a pink shirt so that boosted my coolness rating. It's interesting to see the ways her personality has changed now that she's a big sister. Sometimes I wish we lived a bit closer in order to visit more often.

Anyway, we hung out, ate food, played with dolls, tried to devise a plan to steal their adorable pug, and at the end of the evening I got the bonus of belated b-day gifts. See subject. I have also increased my fuzzy scarf collection by one, so I should probably put out some of the ones I don't wear often out onto the curb.

The drive was nice, and J and I talked a lot about the ways in which we'd like to focus on our projects for school and general creative things. I'm back to having a solid idea of where to go with my current assignments so I'm feeling very rejuvenated about them. Which is good, as I need to be doubly-focused this weekend, since I didn't actually get any extra days off, and the lab is closed tomorrow which is typically my dedicated time to go in and work all day on my homework!

Tomorrow Mom and I and the puppies shall travel up to Baltimore to feast with my cousins -- my sister and Lochinvar flew out to Vegas this afternoon for a long weekend of shows and licentiousness (probably not really, but why not imagine the worst?).

I spent the afternoon baking pumpkin bread. The one with pecans turned out picture perfect, while the one with mini chocolate chips looks like a reject from the goo factory. It's still tasty, though.

My thoughts on Criminal Minds: HOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! *meep*

There isn't much to report: the song itself is pretty simple, as I thought. The main problem that I'm having is that my headphones appear to be giving me jaw problems. I've got some heavy-duty Sennheisers that cancel out noise really well - but in the last few weeks, my jaw has been aching and popping every time I yawn or take a semi-big bite of food.

I don't honestly know if the two are related. The headphones do hurt my ear and jaw area if I wear them for extended periods of time, and I can't seem to adjust them to a place where they don't. I've always just kind of dealt with it, but I've been wearing them a lot more in the last few weeks, since one of my last steps to learning a song is to play along to the music. I'd do it without headphones, but in the particular case of Violet Hill, the drums are kind of muted and hard to make out if you're playing your own kit on top. (This is really the case for everything except, like, AC/DC.) You really need noise-canceling abilities of some kind.

Has anyone else experienced headphone-related jaw problems? I couldn't find anything online. I don't want to screw up that part of my drum practice, but I also would like to be able to EAT, yaknow? Eating is nice.
